BIOGRAPHY OF OLUWATOSIN ANTHONY “TORNADO” ODUNAIYA

Oluwatosin Anthony Ayodeji Odunaiya, popularly known as Anthony “Tornado”, is a cruiserweight boxer whose story is built on discipline, hard work, leadership and a genuine love for boxing.

Born on August 24, 1990, Anthony stands at 5’11” and competes around the 81kg–85kg weight division. But beyond his height, weight and boxing record is a man whose journey into the sport has been shaped by determination and a willingness to keep pushing, even when the journey was not always easy.

Anthony’s love for boxing started in 2015, when he first stepped into a local gym in Waltham Cross and picked up a pair of boxing gloves.

For many people, walking into a boxing gym can be the beginning of a hobby. For Anthony, it became the beginning of a serious journey.

He began learning the basics, understanding footwork, working on his punches and slowly developing the discipline needed to survive inside the ring. Boxing taught him that talent alone is not enough. You have to show up, train hard, listen, learn and keep going.

FROM THE LOCAL GYM TO THE AMATEUR CIRCUIT

In 2016, Anthony took another important step in his boxing journey when he joined the historic Edmonton Eagles Amateur Boxing Club.

The move gave him the opportunity to train in a more competitive environment and test himself against other fighters. It was also a period where he continued to build his confidence and improve the technical side of his boxing.

He was no longer just learning how to throw punches.

He was learning how to think inside the ring.

Every training session, every sparring session and every fight helped him understand the sport on a deeper level.

Then came 2018, a year that became an important chapter in his story.

Anthony joined Selby Amateur Boxing Club, and this became one of the biggest turning points in his boxing career.

At Selby ABC, his passion for boxing grew even stronger. He became known not only for his commitment to training but also for the calm and steady way he carried himself around other fighters.

He was the kind of person teammates could look up to.

BECOMING A LEADER

In 2019, Anthony was appointed Gym Captain.

For a boxer, becoming a gym captain is more than simply having a title. It means being trusted by the people around you.

Anthony became someone younger and fellow fighters could turn to for encouragement, guidance and motivation.

He understood that boxing is not only about winning your own fights. It is also about helping the people around you become better.

Inside the gym, he represented discipline, teamwork and consistency.

His leadership also showed that his journey was becoming bigger than himself.

LIFE INSIDE THE RING

Throughout his amateur career, Anthony built competitive experience through six amateur bouts, recording a 7–2 record, alongside two appearances on the white-collar boxing circuit.

His journey was never presented as a perfect road.

Like every fighter, there were moments of excitement, moments of pressure and moments that tested his commitment to the sport.

But those experiences helped shape him.

Boxing taught Anthony patience.

It taught him how to take a hit and keep moving.

It taught him that sometimes you have to step back, regroup and find the strength to come again.

A FOUR-YEAR BREAK

Anthony later took a four-year break from active competition.

For some people, stepping away from something they love can mean the end of the journey.

For Anthony, it became another chapter.

The time away from active competition did not erase the connection he had built with boxing. The lessons, memories and experiences from the gym remained with him.

The gloves may have stayed away for a while, but the fighter within him never disappeared.

His story is a reminder that sometimes life takes you away from the things you love, but that does not necessarily mean the journey is over.

MORE THAN A BOXER

Anthony “Tornado” is more than just a man who steps inside a boxing ring.

He is a fighter who has spent years learning the importance of discipline, patience, sacrifice and leadership.

From picking up his first gloves in Waltham Cross in 2015, to training with Edmonton Eagles, finding a home at Selby ABC, becoming Gym Captain, competing as an amateur and later taking a four-year break, his journey has been filled with different chapters.

Each chapter has played a part in shaping the man he is today.

And perhaps the most interesting part of Anthony’s story is that he still carries the heart of someone who believes there is more to accomplish.

Because for a true fighter, the story does not end simply because the lights go off and the gloves come down.

Sometimes, the biggest fight is simply finding the courage to start again.

This is Anthony “Tornado” Odunaiya — a boxer, a leader, a fighter and a man whose journey continues to be written one round at a time.
